French Contribution to the Indian Ocean tsunami warning system (SATOI - CNATOI)

This project was set up following the tsunami that occurred on 26th December, 2004 in the Indian Ocean. Its main aim is to update the seismic and tidal observation networks maintained in the region by France for real-time acquisition and transmission of data, so they can be integrated into the regional alert system built under the control of UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission. One of the goals is to reinforce the expertise and tools of the French National Centre for Tsunami Warning in the Indian Ocean (CNATOI).

New French tide gauge observatories installed or upgraded in the Indian Ocean

Within the scope of the project, SHOM has installed new tide gauges contributing to the alert system in Pointe des Galets (Reunion), Sainte-Marie (Reunion), Dzaoudzi (Mayotte) and Toamasina (Madagascar), and LEGOS has adapted transmissions from the Kerguelen tide gauge in the ROSAME network.
