Regional tsunami alert - Tsuareg

The TSUAREG project aims to set up a tsunami early warning system in the Caribbean. It will organise and coordinate the implementation of the instrument-based detection and transmission system for tsunami warnings in the Antilles arc, in coordination with regional partners.

 

 

Financing

The European program Interreg IV Caribbean, managed by the Regional Councils of the West Indies and Guyana has invested 73% of the required budget, with the Central Government providing the rest. This is a key contribution to the Tsunami Warning System for the Caribbean (CARTWS) set up under the aegis of the International Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-Unesco).

 

TSUAREG perimeter

TSUAREG focuses on the early warning portion of the tsunami alert system in the Antilles arc. Under the leadership of the tsunami warning system in the Caribbean (CARTWS), a new synergy is being organized between Caribbean countries, especially the countries of the Antilles arc, for the sharing of data, skills and experience.

 

TSUAREG partners

Seismic, geodetic and tidal data produced by equipment installed under TSUAREG will be exploited by the regional warning centre. The tide gauge data will be provided by SHOM and the General Council of Martinique, and seismic data will be provided by the three seismological network organizations that are project partners: the Observatoire Volcanologique et Sismologique de Martinique, the Observatoire Volcanologique et Sismologique de Guadeloupe de l'Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (OVSM/IPGP and OVSG/IPGP), and the Seismic Research Centre of the University of the West Indies (SRC/UWI).
