Installation of two new tide gauges in Corsica at Centuri and Solenzara

As part of the French project for creating a Regional Centre for Tsunami warnings in the North-east Atlantic and the Mediterranean (CRATANEM project 2009-2012), run by the civil security agency of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Local Government (MIOMCT/DSC) and by the department for the prevention of risk of the Ministry for Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Marine Affairs (MEEDDM/DGPR), SHOM is increasing the density of its network for observing sea levels (RONIM) with the aim of being able to detect tsunamis in the Mediterranean by the national tsunami warning centre (CENALT), which will be accommodated within the atomic energy commissariat (CEA/DAM).

In this context, SHOM has installed two new tide gauges in Corsicaat Centuri in the North-West and at Solenzara in the South-East. The real-time transmission of sea level measurements will add to the measurements that have been taken at Ajacciofor several years and will therefore make it possible to observe any tsunami coming from the LigurianSea (Centuri) or the Tyrrhenian Sea (Solenzara).
