12th session of the GLOSS Group of Experts and associated workshops [7-11/11/2011]

The study and monitoring of recent and current climatic variations in sea level is organized at worldwide level around the Global Sea Level Observing System (GLOSS) programme of UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission.

Every two years, the programme's group of experts meets at UNESCO's headquarters in Paris in order, in particular, to assess the current situation concerning national tide gauge observatories.

Before the meeting, two workshops will be organized from 7 to 9 November. They will concern :

- Storm waves, extreme water levels and the requirement for high-quality real-time data [7 and 8 November] ;

- Satellite-based methods for monitoring the vertical movements of tide gauges [8 and 9 November].

The twelfth session of the GLOSS Group of Experts will take place from 9 to 11 November. Currently, the programmes are still under discussion.
