Installation of a new tide gauge in Monaco

Localisation Monaco tide gauge

From 29 November to 2 December 2010, two technicians from SHOM were in Monaco in order to install a permanent radar tide gauge in the portof Fontvieille as part of the Sea Level Observation Network (RONIM).

An Optiflex telemetry radar is now installed in a float well at the north end of the harbour master's jetty in Fontvieille. Since its installation it has been transmitting its data in real time via the Internet at the Intergovernmental Oceanography Commission (IOC) site.

For this installation, SHOM received technical support from its local partner: the Monaco Environment Agency. Data on the height of sea level at Fontvieille will now be available in REFMAR in non-real time.

It should be noted that the acoustic tide gauge installed by SHOM on 15 April 1999 inthe portof Hercule(Condamine) is still functioning.

For further information, see the microfiche of the Monaco observatory here.

Information in the local press: Monaco Hebdo of 3 January 2011.
