Issue of the new SHOMAR - Tidal predictions

In the context of tide gauge measurements, tidal predictions provide an aid to validation of the measurements collected by tide gauges and also make it possible to calculate observed positive and negative surges. Analysis of positive and negative surges in relation to atmospheric pressure, for example or to neighbouring tide gauges then makes it possible, for example, to detect any jumps or peaks in the measurement.

SHOM calculates official tide predictions for maritime navigation purposes at more than 1,000 sites throughout the world, including 150 in mainland France and 42 on French coasts overseas.

These tide predictions are calculated from observations of sea levels recorded by tide gauges installed along the coasts.
